RE: A. Abedon Saiz, Jr., M.D. LIC#: 24387

Dear Dr. Cassidy:

I am a primary care physician, specializing in family practice, located in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. I would just like to have you consider a few things when investigating the case of Dr. Saiz.

I have practiced in Lake Havasu City for the past three (3) years and I have never experienced any problem with Dr. Saiz' medical judgment.

Dr. Saiz is the best technical surgeon that we have in this town. He takes on the hardest cases and the highest risk cases that we have, because of his expertise and because of his secondary specialty in vascular surgery. Dr. Saiz is always willing to take on any patients problems and manages them both surgically and postoperatively in an exemplary manner I have never seen any problem in his judgment. There have been a number of times where he has not done surgery on patients because of other medical conditions, but I have always found that his patients have clearly been given the option as far as doing surgery or not, and that I have always found that his patients have been very appreciative at his attempts at helping them.

Dr. Saiz has the support of the medical community here and we will have significant detrimental effects that have already started to present themselves because of the lack of a vascular surgeon in the community. We have another surgeon who is leaving the area in the near future, and an older surgeon who may be retiring soon, which leaves this community short of on-call surgeons or ones that are exhausted because of the demanding call requirements in this community.

I have worked in a large metropolitan area in the past and realize that the criteria of what is considered reasonable practice in a large community is completely different than in a smaller outlying community. We do not have the advantages of having multiple sub-specialities to get consultations from prior to surgery, nor do we have surgical sub-specialities here and the various physicians and surgeons do the best that they can for a community that is distant from a big center.

I would appreciate it if you would take this letter into consideration when looking at Dr. Saiz' record. I would also ask that you expedite this matter so that his patients do not continue to suffer from the lack of ability to be able to treat them in the community, the lack of emergency services available, and also the malicious gossip that is going around this town already, because of the lack of confidentiality when you are investigating these type of cases. I know that you have to follow the law in investigating physicians, but I think that at this time placing such restrictions as yet done on Dr. Saiz has certainly not protected the public, but has done the opposite.

Yours sincerely,
Peter H. Dux, M.D.
