Linda Cleveland, CFA CERTIFIED SURGICAL 1st ASSISTANT 2711 INCA DRIVE LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ 86406 TELEPHONE: (928) XXX-XXXX November 4, 2002 Arizona Medical Board 9545 East Doubletree Ranch Road Scottsdale, Arizona 85258 Dear Board Members: You, of the Medical Board, have a mission to regulate the standards of practice of medical doctors and protect the public from medical malpractice. This is a task that requires evaluation skills utilized not only upon initiation of a doctor's license, but in ongoing regulation of discrepancies within the statutes of practicing medicine. I commend you in your efforts but would like to offer a few observations to support the integrity of a surgeon, Dr. Abedon Saiz, Jr., marred by issues of disregarding regulations. I have known Dr. Saiz for 6 years as a professional associate and personal friend. Working alongside him, I can attest that he is held in highest regards and confidence for his professional skills and personable attitude among his colleagues and the community. He relocated to Lake Havasu to build a practice with his professional expertise as a Board Certified General Surgeon and Fellowship in vascular surgery. This expertise being an asset needed in caring for the patient population in Lake Havasu and surrounding communities. As these older generations of patients acquire multi-system disease processes, the complexity of diagnosing and caring for this type needs someone with a broad experience and range of skills to care for them. His high energy, dedication and compassion for his patients is exemplified through his professional insight and respect for humanity, challenging his practice upon caring for referrals from his colleagues of patients that have gone through a long, exhaustive course of treatments and need a definitive solution. Regarded by hundreds as a fair, honest and generous man, he demonstrates concern for the less fortunate by timelessly working to meet the needs of the community. His unique sensitivity and professional insight has created an invaluable asset to our community. Giving generously of his time and talents to the community, he is also an advocate for community projects, a teacher to his colleagues and medical staff, and,ú personally supportive to those he can guide in a positive direction. I will attest that Dr. Saiz is of the highest caliber in his field of expertise of any physician I have known in the thirty-one years I have been in the medical profession. I am not attempting to minimize the seriousness of his offenses but I believe a look at all sides will reveal a man of many fine qualities overshadowed by his breech in standards of practice in medicine. For anyone of seasoned judgment knows that in the press of everyday duties, often times complicated by conditions beyond their control, things that should not happen, sometimes do happen, and matters that should be taken care of are not always attended to in the most perfect of ways. Please consider this supportive insight while deliberating on the judgment of Dr. Saizs’ infractions. Linda Cleveland, Certified First Assistant < Return To Dr. Saiz's Page |
